This Day Ride from November 14, 2012 is re-posted here from our old website:
On Wednesday, November 14th, we took another Day Ride. Our goal today was to finalize the route for our upcoming Fun Run beginning at Biker Rags on Sunday November 18, 2012.
We left our home in North Knoxville at 10:30 am. It was cloudy and 42 degrees, so we both wore our Gerbing’s jacket liners, heated gloves, thermal lined chaps, thermal lined leather jackets, 3/4 pilot helmets and fleece neck and face warmer.
We took the interstate from our home in North Knoxville to Biker Rags to begin our route for the Fun Run.
From Biker Rags we went North on Pellissippi to Edgemoor Road and then turned onto Melton Lake Drive. From there we got on Seivers Boulevard to Clinton, through Clinton and then onto Andersonville where we stopped at the BP Station for our first rest stop on the Fun Run.
From Andersonville, we rode north on highway 61 past Big Ridge State Park, through some switchbacks and then onto 170 North. We stopped for a few photos on the road.
170 took us north above Maynardville and onto 33.
We rode south on 33 to Maynardville where we stopped at the “33 Diner” for lunch. It’s a small old fashioned roadside diner with counter seating and about eight small booths.
We grabbed a booth and both ordered country steak, mashed potatoes, pinto beans and slaw along with a piece of German chocolate cake.
The food was great- real home cooking with home made cake. Yum! We both left stuffed and agreed that we will make this one of our regular go to places.
After lunch, we packed up to continue on our Fun Run route.
We rode south on 33 through Maynardville onto our second rest stop at Tolliver’s Market (Marathon Station) right at the Union and Knox County line.
From there we continued south on 33 to Halls, took Emory Road to Norris Freeway, then onto Raccoon Valley Road. We stopped along the way for a couple of photos.
From Raccoon Valley Road, we took Edgemoor, then Pellissippii back to Biker Rags. Then we headed home.
We got back to our home in North Knoxville around 4 pm and our total ride was 150 miles. Our Fun Run route on Sunday will be right at 110 miles.
Once home, we took some photos of the fur kids- they are always glad to see us return.
