DAY RIDE – MARCH 17, 2010

This Day Ride from March 17, 2010 is re-posted here from our old website:

We woke up Wednesday to another cold overcast day- but since it was our day off- we decided to take a day ride. The morning temperature was 44 degrees- so we decided to dress for the cold. We both wore our thermal chaps- heavy leather jackets- neck warmers, full face helmets and winter gloves.

DR 3-17-10 AWe took off from our home in North Knoxville and headed north on Broadway. We got to Halls and headed north on 131 and rode to Luttrell.  We stopped briefly for a photo.

DR 3-17-10 BThen we took 61 to 331 into Blaine where we stopped for lunch at Breeden’s Restaurant.

DR 3-17-10 C

DR 3-17-10 DWe’ve eaten at Breeden’s many times- the folks are always friendly and the food is good home cooking.

After lunch we took 11W to Rutledge. We stopped to see our good friend, David Hurst at his paint shop- “Slide Effects” on Hwy 92.

DR 3-17-10 EHe’s currently working on a paint job for Jeff’s V-Rod and has painted many of the vintage bikes in our collection.

After leaving David’s shop, we headed toward Cherokee Dam when it started to rain. It didn’t rain hard- but it was enough to get the roads really wet- so we made it to 11E and decided to head back to Knoxville. By the time we got to East Knoxville, the rain had stopped and we decided to look at some of the old buildings on MLK Boulevard.

DR 3-17-10 HNext we rode to the Time Warp Tea Room on Central Avenue.

DR 3-17-10 KWe stopped in for a snack and to talk with Dan- owner and vintage bike enthusiast.

DR 3-17-10 I The Time Warp Tea Room hosts a Vintage Bike night every Tuesday from 5pm to 9pm.

After leaving the Tea Room, we decided to ride on home.

DR 3-17-10 MWe left home in the morning around 10:45am and got home around 3:30pm. Our total ride was about 81 miles.

DR 3-17-10 NEven though it wasn’t the prettiest day to be out on the bikes, we were glad we went. This day ride definitely helped to blow out the winter cobwebs!
