This Day Ride from November 3, 2009 is re-posted here from our old website:
Tuesday was our day off and we woke to a beautiful fall day. We’d planned a day ride to Tellico Plains- so we leathered up around 10:30 am and took off.
We left our house in North Knoxville and rode to Clinton Highway where we jumped on Edgemoor Road to start our day. We quickly stopped at the Bull Run Steam Plant and Clinch River to take some pictures. We’ve ridden by here for years- but this is the first time we’ve actually stopped and looked around. Here are a few shots:
After a few minutes, we got back on Edgemoor Road and headed to Pellissippi Parkway- then to Watt Road and on to Lenoir City. We stopped at the Loudon County Dam to look around and take some photos.
We got back on the road, crossed the dam and took 444 through Tellico Village. When we got to 72, we took a left and headed to Vonore where we stopped at the Countryside Restaurant for lunch.
The folks were friendly, the atmosphere was homey, and the food was great. Jeff recommends the roast beef.

After lunch- we took 411 South to Madisonville- where we got on 58 South and headed to Tellico Plains. Once we got to Tellico Plains, we stopped and parked downtown so we could look around.
After we took a few photos- we decided to get back on the road.
From Tellico Plains we took 360 back to Vonore. It’s really a nice road to ride. Gentle curves- great scenery and not much traffic. We came in the back way to Vonore- stopping briefly to take one last photo.
From Vonore, we got back on 411 heading north toward Maryville. We stopped for gas in Greenback- took 92 to Morgantown Road- and rode into Maryville. From Maryville, we took Alcoa Highway- rode back to Knoxville and headed on home.
We got back to the house around 3 pm and our total ride was 147 miles. We’ve had some nice rides this year, but this was probably the prettiest weather we’ve had recently. The sun was out- the temps were cool and all in all- it was just about perfect.
