On Wednesday, October 26th, we took a day ride. Our destination was the Cherohala Skyway to see the beautiful fall colors.
Jeff kicks off the day in this short video:
It was cool when we left our home in North Knoxville at 10:00am, around 45 degrees, but the skies were clear blue and it was forecast to get into the mid 70’s.
We rode south on Alcoa Highway to Maryville, then got on 411 riding to Vonore.

Once in Vonore, we stopped to fuel up and eat a light snack. In Vonore, we took 360 south to Tellico Plains.

From Tellico Plains, we began our ascent up the Cherohala Skyway. We stopped several times along the Skyway to view the beautiful colors.

After riding the entire Skyway, we rode into Robbinsville, NC and headed into downtown.

The folks at Lynn’s were friendly and the food was great! This is a great stop next time you ride the Skyway.
From Robbinsville, we rode north on 129 heading toward the Dragon’s Tail. We stopped to view the water along the way.

We eventually made it to the start of the Dragon’s Tail. We stopped to look at the Cheoah Dam right before reaching Deal’s Gap. This was the dam used as a film location for the 1993 movie, ‘The Fugitive’.

We rode down the Dragon and into Tallassee. We then took 336 to 411 and back into Maryville. From Maryville we took Alcoa Highway back to Knoxville.
We got home at 5:30pm and our total mileage was 197 miles.
